It is finally here. The final main roster (205 Live isn’t the main roster) go-home show before WrestleMania 34 sees the blue brand put their final touches on the SmackDown side of card for Sunday. The buzz is in the air for WrestleMania and SmackDown tonight needs to balance between selling their show on Sunday with also getting everybody out of tonight ready to go for the show of shows.
Here are five questions that we need answered on tonight’s edition of SmackDown Live.
Will Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens send a message to Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon?
Shane McMahon is scheduled to make his first appearance on SmackDown Live since the beat down that he was given by Zayn and Owens, and the first since his real-life injuries saw him in the hospital. A lot has changed since McMahon was last around, mainly the fact that Daniel Bryan is an active member of the roster again and will be teaming with McMahon at ‘Mania.
There has been a lot of tension between McMahon and Bryan the last couple of months over this whole Zayn/Owens saga. Tonight might give us an indication of whether or not they can put their differences aside for Sunday. Plus, will the still-fired Zayn and Owens make an appearance on this show to make a statement towards their opponents for Sunday?
How will Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles work as teammates?
This is one of the oldest tricks in the wrestling playbook: opponents on Sunday, but partners tonight. That is the task for Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles as they team up tonight to take on the team of Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable. Last week, Nakamura teased that he could hit Styles with a move at any time but didn’t. Perhaps the tables will turn tonight and see Styles as the one showing off to Nakamura.
Either way, there should be a major standoff between these two before their class in five days.
Can Rusev gain more momentum heading into WrestleMania?
Rusev is getting a big moment at WrestleMania. Not only is it going to be Rusev Day, but Rusev will also be challenging for the United States Championship. He earned that right after carrying Jinder Mahal to a tag team victory, which included the Bulgarian Brute earning a pinfall victory on Randy Orton.
Tonight, Rusev goes one on one with his tag team partner from a week ago. Rusev could find himself with two victories over two of his opponents on Sunday if he can gain a victory tonight. WWE might be going with Rusev has an actual draw with the late decision to add him to the title match. We may get an indication of that tonight.
Is Charlotte ready for Asuka?
Charlotte Flair is going to get herself a tune-up match before her showdown with Asuka at WrestleMania for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. After missing last week due to an injury, Charlotte is back and wants revenge on Natayla for pinning her two weeks ago.
This should give Charlotte an opportunity to get her win back, while also showing to Asuka that she is ready for Sunday.
Does SmackDown have a solid go-home show?
We are just days away from WrestleMania. It has been a struggle at times to get through SmackDown Live, especially with the Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon stuff. All SmackDown Live needs to do now is have a solid show and keep everybody in good shape for Sunday. That’s it. The buzz of ‘Mania being here makes up for all of the mistakes of the last couple of months.
Get in. Get out. Move on to Sunday. That needs to be the plan for the blue brand tonight.
