With yet another WWE pay-per-view slate currently on the immediate horizon, the WWE Universe now has just one day to prepare for Clash of Champions 2017. As the “Road to WrestleMania” looms, the SmackDown Live brand is gearing up for a major push with every single one of the program’s titles on the line this Sunday in Boston.
- Zack Ryder vs. Mojo Rawley
- A.J. Styles vs. Jinder Mahal [WWE Championship]
- Barton Corbin vs. Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler [United States Championship]
- Charlotte Flair vs. Natalya [SmackDown Live Women’s Championship]
- The Usos (Jimmy and Jey) vs. The New Day (Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston, Big E) vs. Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable vs. Rusev and Aiden English [SmackDown Live Tag-Team Championships]
- Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn
- Breezango (Fandango and Tyler Breeze) vs. The Bludgeon Brothers (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan)
Orton and Nakamura versus Owens and Zayn could very well steal the show
Despite the fact that every SmackDown Live title will be on the line come Sunday evening, it is ultimately a non-title match that may end up stealing the show in Boston.
While it remains to be seen as to whether or not these to tag-teams continue their run alongside one another after this pay-per-view event, Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura versus Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn has quickly turned into one of the premiere matches on the slate with both teams garnering a tremendous amount of attention over the last few weeks — especially Owens and Zayn. When highly talented superstars join forces en route to assembling unconventional tag-teams, the possibilities are endless — especially when there are not one, but two guest referees.
With each title picture on Tuesdays a bit crowded at the moment, this match could allow both teams to go on a run while upping the ante with their mere presence as opposed to boosting such a feud with championships on the line. Because of the high-profile nature of all four competitors, this match has turned into must-see television.
What will come of the United States Championship match?
Although this match does initially pop out on paper, there could be some very interesting ramifications from such a bout.
With Baron Corbin currently serving as the United States Champion, will the WWE allow such a title reign to continue? Bobby Roode has been unable to receive the push needed to make his arrival on SmackDown Live truly…glorious. Although Roode was inserted into the main event of Survivor Series alongside some future Hall of Fame talent, his presence was barely felt while the United States strap could be what the former NXT standout needs in order to propel him further toward the top of the roster.
Lastly, and perhaps most interestingly, what is going to become of Dolph Ziggler? Ziggler has not been shy about clamoring for better angles in addition to being unhappy with his role on SmackDown Live as of late. As a result, it has been speculated that Ziggler could be on his way out of the WWE altogether, but a win at Clash of Champions could possibly halt such plans. While Ziggler could be on his way out regardless, the WWE may allow the veteran superstar to make one last run on the world’s biggest stage.
